Sing for Hope Pianos
2023 Piano:
Contemporary Creoles
Contemporary Creoles
My piano this past year focused on contemporary New Orleanian musicians who contribute to the wealth of live music in the city.
Contemporary Creoles of Louisiana is a term meant to identiy those who are based in Louisiana and give their talents in making it what it is today.
Every year, Sing for Hope New Orleans hires artists to design and paint refurbished pianos. These pianos are exhibited at the Jazz museum and then sent out to their public locations where people can interact with them for two weeks. After that, they are donated out into places like schools, cultural hot spots, and small businesses where they will be enjoyed forever.
Every year I paint one of the painos from the project and exhibit it along with the others!
My piano is the "extra" piano that we keep that Sing for Hope can use to promote its self and continue to spread art and music around the city.
Below you'll find detailed photos of each piano Ive done so far!
2022 Piano: Mother of Peace
The first year we started the project, I painted Mahalia Jackson on my piano to commemorate the lasting impact she had on gospel music as a New Orleans native.
